How does the encrypted thermal paper work?
One side of the thermal paper is coated with a heat-sensitive layer, the colour of the layer alters when heated. This colour is ususally black. In case of the STP procedure the heat-sensitive layer is hidden by other layers, which veils the information printed by thermal printers. During thermal printing the information gets on the thermal layer, which only becomes visible after removing the protective layer.
The layers are applied on the heat-sensitive layer by a printing process, so the protective layer can be positioned to hide only the necessary parts of the data printed.
